This is the Lacerda Elevator in Salvador, Bahia. It basically connects the upper and the lower city.
It’s a beautiful view from up there.

I’m so anxious for my chemicals to arrive! It’s been almost 20 days since I ordered from Freestyle and I’m tracking it everyday. I can’t develop my films till I get them. It is getting more and more difficult to get film material around here. It’s so sad (and expensive too)!

How is it in other countries? Is it still easy to get chemicals, films and paper? If it’s only here, I will be happier. I’d have to order from Freestyle forever, but at least I’ll be able to work with what I love.

Yes, I know I can use digital. It’s practical, fast and cheap. But, besides the technical aspects (I don’t want to go there here) there’s a lot of other reason why I love film:

• It’s fun;
• It’s classic;
• It’s beautiful;
• Smells funny;
• Lots of variables, so the sensation I have total control over my work;
• Total control over my work;
• Makes me feel crafty;
• It’s closer to  witchery;
• It’s closer to Harry Potter;
• I feel connected to Atget (spiritually).

That reminds me that when I was learning to develop film, I had to be in total darkness (now I don’t) and I was still learning to put the film in the spiral, so I was ridiculously slow.

The only place in the house that didn’t get any light in, was the bathroom in the laundry. It was so dark that it seemed like a thick black mass around me, not air. It seems like I could touch it. And then at a point, I started to get nervous and feel like there was someone there staring at me. Then I started to accelerate things and my hands started to sweat and I just wanted that thing in the spiral as fast as possible!

Then, when I looked at the negative I couldn’t explain those mysterious half-moon marks. How did it get there? It must be a crappy film.

I still get nervous to load the spiral, sometimes. But, now I’m fast! Also, I don’t do that in total darkness anymore, so my eyes slowly begin to recognize some shapes around. To differentiate spaces from things is enough for me. Otherwise, I’ll start to create them. :P

I know what you’re thinking. It’s so silly. I know…

Esse é o Elevador Lacerda em Salvador-BA. Ele basicamente conecta a cidade alta e a cidade baixa. A vista é muito bonita lá de cima.

Estou tão ansiosa pela chegada dos meus químicos! São quase 20 dias desde que fiz o pedido na Freestyle e eu rastreio todo dia. Não posso revelar meus filmes enquanto não chegarem. Está ficando mais e mais difícil conseguir material de filme por aqui. Isso é muito triste (e muito caro)!

Como será em outros países? Será que ainda está fácil conseguir químicos, filme e papel? Se for só aqui, fico mais feliz. Teria que comprar pela Freestyle pro resto da vida, mas pelo menos poderia trabalhar com o que gosto.

É, eu sei que posso usar digital. É mais prático, rápido e barato. Mas, deixando de fora os aspectos técnicos (não vou nem começar) tem várias razões pelas quais adoro filme:

• É divertido;
• É clássico;
• É bonito;
• Cheira esquisito;
• Várias variáveis, o que me faz sentir ter total controle sobre meu trabalho;
• Total controle sobre o meu trabalho;
• Me faz sentir habilidosa;
• Mais próximo da feitiçaria;
• Mais próxima do Harry Potter;
• Me sinto conectada ao Atget (espiritualmete).

Isso me lembra de quando estava começando a revelar e tinha que ficar no escuro total (eu não fico mais) e eu ainda estava aprendendo a pôr o filme na espiral, então eu era ridiculamente lenta.

O único lugar na casa que não entrava nenhuma luz era no banheiro da lavanderia. Era tão escuro que parecia uma massa preta em volta de mim e não ar. Era quase palpável! E num certo ponto eu começava a ficar nervosa e sentir como se tivesse alguém ali me encarando. Aí eu começava a acelerar tudo e minhas mãos suavam e eu só queria aquele troço dentro da espiral o mais rápido possível!

Depois eu olhava o negativo e não entendia aquelas misteriosas marcas de meia-lua. Como foram parar ali? Deve ser uma porcaria de filme!

Eu ainda fico nervosa pra carregar o filme na espiral, às vezes. Mas, agora eu sou rápida! E também não fico mais no breu, então os olhos vão se acostumando e aos pouquinhos reconhecendo algumas formas. Poder diferenciar os espaços das formas é o suficiente pra mim. Senão eu começo a criar agumas. :P

Eu sei o que está pensando. Que bobagem. Eu sei…
